You may already be aware of the 80th anniversary of D-day coming up in June, however, do you know how the world is remembering the historical event?

Commemorative activities are scheduled for June 6, 2024, as well as on the days leading up to and following that date. For example, a service remembering the Normandy landings will take place in the Bayeux War Cemetery, France on the 5th of June.

The military operation known as the D-Day which took place on June 6, 1944, united the ground, air, and naval forces of the allied armies in what is recognised as the most extensive amphibious invasion in military history. The mission, codenamed OVERLORD, successfully deployed five naval assault divisions to the shores of Normandy, France. D-Day marked a pivotal moment that propelled the Allies towards an inevitable triumph.
